Watch Electric Palace here.
Charlie W talks about making Electric Palace
Charlie's approach is organic. He films odd ideas, collects lists of music, draws characters & adds other ideas as he goes along. After a month or so of total chaos with paper everywhere - a film emerges (often just before a deadline).
The jazz music in Electric Palace was chosen because it gives an American feel to the film.

Part way through making the film he acquired a UV lamp which improved the look so much that he went back and re-made completed scenes to use it.
The sound was added last and then the frame changes slowed down  or sped up to fit.

Electric Palace took two solid months of drawing , writing lists, filming, and editing every night & every weekend.

Charlie writes a lot of stories and also makes comic books. But he has found that you cannot simply write a story and then film it. For a film, he finds it easier to start with an idea & expand it by adding bits as he goes along. In this way, he can be inspired by the music & drawings he has done or maybe the way something was filmed on TV. The film evolves as he goes along (learning from his mistakes as he does so).

He picks up a lot of ideas and tips at film festivals & talks about film making.
